Leah Janae, is a 16-year-old singer/dancer/actress from Winnipeg, Canada. Her infectious pop-rock style mines the iconic sounds of the ‘80s (Madonna, ABBA, Michael Jackson and A-ha) for a hook-laden, radio-friendly sound.
In summer 2020, Leah sung a song in her backyard, accompanied by her dad on guitar. Multi-platinum-album- and Juno-recipient producer Danny Schur (Chantal Kreviazuk, Sony) happened to hear Leah’s powerhouse pipes from a neighbouring backyard. Peeking through the adjoining bushes, Danny was blown away by the confident vocal sound coming from a 12-year-old.
During COVID, Leah and Danny produced an album of originals the first single from which is the Avril Lavigne-inspired Queen of Mean, a cautionary tale about toxic teenage bullying. Leah’s song lyrics distinguish themselves with smart, internal rhymes (a function of her musical theatre training) and a Greta Thunberg sense of teenagers saving the world.
Leah's second single, On the Radio, is a classic, A-ha-inspired song that is as catchy as it is memorable.
Leah’s hometown of Winnipeg is a Canadian musical hotbed, the home of The Guess Who, among many others. With more singles coming in 2022-23, Leah Janae has what it takes to be the next successful artist from Winnipeg.
